service port retrofit problem

captcory on Sun August 17, 2008 8:55 AM User is offline

Year: 1991
Make: mazda
Model: miata
Engine Size: 1.6L
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Ambient Temp: 90

I have a 1991 miata that has been converted to 134a. I am trying to hook up my 134a guages, but they won't "snap on" all the way. I went and bought a new set of retrofit service port adaptors and they are the same as what is on the car. however, my new adaptors will snap into my coupler no problem when not installed on the car. When they are installed on the car the coupler will not snap on all the way. It is hitting the shrader valve core. If I unscrew the adaptor a couple of turns the coupler will go on but now the adaptor leaks. any sugestions?

Some adapters require you remove the original scharder valves. One valve core per connection.
