System not charging

y2k600f4 on Sat August 09, 2008 2:52 PM User is offline

Year: 1980
Make: Chevrolet
Model: Camoro
Engine Size: 350
Refrigerant Type: R134a
Ambient Temp: 85
Pressure Low: 115
Pressure High: 115
Country of Origin: United States

Finally got a local garage to pull a vacuum on my retroffited system and today got time to attempt to charge my system (R134 conversion). With car off; added 1 can R134a w/ dye on high side as liquid and then started to charge low side as gas with car running with 2nd can; however the system is not seeming to take a charge. The low and high side pressures during running after 1st can is approx 115 PSI; the CCOT switch is jumpered and the AC clutch is engaging. Is my compressor possibly shot ?? It is an A6. Thanks.

Take a pair of vive grips and clamp off a rubber section of the suction hose for a few seconds. If you low side pulls into a vacuum the compressor is good.

You need to make sure the low side shrader valve is being depressed, if it's not, that could be the reason for the same pressures. Make sure the high side valve is closed also...
