a/c system lubrication

93z on Sun July 13, 2008 6:31 PM User is offline

i have a question in reference to how a a/c system lubricates itself?normally oil is added to most of the a/c equipment when is installed? my question is,i have seen when a system has leaked the freon out, along with oil. when the system is repaired, vacuumed, oil is added back into the system. does the oil move along with the freon as it circulates?how does the components get lubricated?

Oil is carried by the refrigerant, which is why it is so important to have the correct oil type with refrigerant type. Some compressors have an oil sump which is designed to retain some oil to help keep the compressor lubricated.
