not cooling at idle, little cooling while moving

arnea on Wed July 02, 2008 5:28 PM User is offline

Year: 1997
Make: Chev
Model: Suburban
Engine Size: 5.7
Refrigerant Type: 134A
Ambient Temp: 83
Pressure Low: 88
Pressure High: 125
Country of Origin: United States

I've got a 97 chev suburban with the dual system that holds 64oz. The compressor doesn't cycle but is engaged all the time. I have no cooling at idle but I get some when it moves. The static pressure on the low side is 100psi at 83 degrees. I measured 88/125psi at idle and 70/175psi at 1500 rpm at 83 degrees. Ideas????Thanks Arne

Those type of readings can indicate a poor performing compressor. That is if the refrigerant and oil levels are correct.

Those pressures indicate a bad compressor. Surprised you get any cooling at all. Check out Ackits.com clones for a "better" than factory compressor. I use the Seltec on mine with no complaints at all. Hope this helps.
You will need to check the O tube for debris as it sounds like the reed valves went on yours which may indicate a need to flush the system..Let us know what you find..
