If I was to buy a new ac compressor for my car would a rebuilt ac compressor be better then a new chinese made ac compressor.I heard to stay away from four seasons, compressor works compressors. How does one determine whats reliable out on the market.

I had a Caddy last night-- with a rebuilt by Four Seizens compressor on it-- the case halves were drooling with oil and dye- and when I took the clutch drive off- there was no key in the keyway... so go figure....I hate Remans......

The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......

Reman's serve the consumers request for "I want it cheap".

New, Reman, foreign made; who knows anymore as all can be, and sometimes is, packaged in the same style box. Stick with a strong name brand (new or reman), from a reputable supplier, that carries and will support a decent warranty (such as AMA).

Follow proper and prescribed installation practices, for failure to do so is by far the biggest cause of compressor failures; usually resulting in the formation of the opinion "that brand is junk".

My opinion is there is some real junk being peddled be it new, reman or import. No company or brand is perfect! But there are preferred vendors in this industry which have the staff to get quality product be it local or import. Let's also not forget many do not want to follow the proper procedures and then blame the product for a failure. They expect a vendor to keep giving them a replacement until they get it right. I have nothing against import compressors from China or South Korea. You have to buy from a quality vendor which sends a team to these countries and inspects the production procedures. I personally have changed my stance on import compressors. While I think the company we buy our re-manufactured compressors is one of the best in the business. I still think new is always the best choice, even an import. But most shoppers these days shop by price not quality!!! What concerns me more than a China compressor. Is the person calling his garage his warehouse or the Ebay seller which offers a new compressor for $ 50.00. Yes that may be a great buy if you like supporting someone that may have acquired a product in a unprofessional manner. Not saying all Ebay sellers do this but many of us know the cost of these items! This is the main reason I do not allow Ebay links on this site. You can't verify every seller is honest and Ebay couldn't care less as long as the buyer and seller are happy.

Rant over time to get back to work.

Its up to you. Do you have more time or more money? Do you enjoy messing with air conditioning? Is working on cars a hobby or a chore? I buy remans for myself even though the quality is very questionable in my experience. Working on a customers car or family members car is often a different situation. Customers lose confidence in you every time they comeback for the same problem that you said you fixed no matter if its you or the parts.

I have purchased reman AC compressors for about 7 years now from a reliable source on the west coast. Nothing at all wrong with reman.

Don't forget that the "new" compressor didn't last long, either.
