Hi
Hows is everyone here
Ive got a thermometer and it reads just over 40f,On the instructions its telling me if the tempature is between 45-60 then the gas is fine,The air con pipe gets nice and cold,So there is nothing wrong with my air con.
But ive done the same test on my dads car and his reads just under 60f,going by the instructions his air con is running fine,But the air con pipe doesn't get cold at all
Ive got a MG ZS and he has a Rover 45 which is really the same car as mine,Just mine is a bit better well thats a lie much better
Anyway my question if the tempature is ok how come his air con pipe doesn't get cold at all,And should it really be just under 60f
Thank You For Reading.

The only good bit on a Rover is the air con system... it is based on the Honda Civic.
60f is about 17c which is roughly ambient temperature... Is the compressor centre hub pulling in? If so then you may be low on refrigerant which could mean a leak or natural leakage.. The system is tiny, only about 600g so any loss of refrigerant will have a significant effect on cooling.. so get your refrigerant weight checked.
When it is right, the Rover 25 and 45 ac will cool very well indeed
PS Not Jezzer as in Jezzer Clarkson is it??? Tim loves him... LOL

Thank you for your fast reply
Sorry no im just the plain old jezzer lol
Well i did think his car should be alot colder than what it is,He said it gets him cold i know one persons cold is another persons warm.
But is the instructions right in saying that up to 60f is fine?
He is a hard man to get him to go and get it sorted so i think ill have to take it for him,He said if its saying just below 60 which is fine he doesn't want to pay out if nothing is wrong
But on all cars the pipe should get cold?
If you put your hand in front of the air vent without the air-con on then switch it on,You can notice the different tempature
His car is a Rover Impression S TD

60f might be fine if the car is in Arizona but you are in the cold wet UK so no, 60f is definitely not OK.. My brother in law smokes round in a Rover 25, aircon had rarely been used, the ac was working but barely, I weighed out 200g of refrigerant and recharged it with the required ammount and the vent temps were back to a nice healthy 4.5 c
The compressor used is the infamous SD7V16 which doesn't like to be run with low refrigerant charge and hence low lubrication. It is his choice 17 c vent temps are not correct for the UK.. spend a little now and get it checked over or end up with a new compressor drier and TXV later
What was the ambient temperature when the vent was blowing 60f?
PS the larger (Suction) pipe should get cold and will tend to sweat with condensation.. the smaller pipe will be warm between the condenser and the bulkhead and will be quite hot between the compressor and condenser

I cant remember what the ambient temperature was,But after telling my dad what you have said he now knows it should be better and will get it to a garage ASAP
So thanks for your help

Not a problem,Let us know how you get on.. As I said before, the Rover ac does work better than many European cars and does seem to be more reliable than many too
