ac blows hot

bz3333 on Thu June 26, 2008 11:04 PM User is offline

Year: 1998
Make: buick
Model: skylark
Engine Size: 3.1L
Refrigerant Type: 134
Ambient Temp: 110F
Pressure Low: 100
Pressure High: 100
Country of Origin: United States

A/C system was charged, not long after that, blows very hot air only, no difference between max or normal. Noticed that compressor did not seem to be engaging (no added load on engine). Had same guy who charged it check it again (charge). System seemed to be full. Another guy looked at it and told me compressor shot based on pressure on both sides was equal. Told me I was right, there is no load on engine because, more than likely compression valve shot (or some such thing). Does any of this sound reasonable? About to pay him to replace compressor, please help.

Does the compressor engage? When you press the button, the piece in front of the pulley should snap in and start spinning along with the pulley.

I believe that it does ( have not checked it myself) but did ask and was told yes.

Sounds it has the control valve problem with your V5 compressor, it spins but won't compress. Replacing the compressor will fix it. The control valve (in the side of the compressor) can be replaced seperately but many shops would rather not deal with taking a compressor apart.

Thanks for the timely input. I had no reason to doubt this guy, other than the fact that I just don't know enough about it. At this very moment he is replacing it (comp) with a rebuilt one. Will let you know if that was it. . Thanks again.
