Squeak on Nissan Frontier

RETROHWAM on Wed June 25, 2008 9:51 PM User is offline

Year: 2003
Make: Nissan
Model: Frontier
Engine Size: 4 cyl
Refrigerant Type: 134A

Son has a ’03 Frontier with 4cyl engine that we are getting a strange noise.
Almost exclusively at highway speeds (>55) and with the air conditioning on he occasionally get a noise that sounds like you’ve stepped on the cat’s tail. I wouldn’t think that it would be that the belt is loose – thinking that it might be the a/c clutch sticking momentarily. Anyone else had any experience with this?

Any help would be appreciated.

The noise only happen when the a/c is on? Where is the nose coming from, under hood center, left, or right side of vehicle?

When considering your next auto A/C purchase, please consider the site that supports you:

check the simple stuff first. Inspect the belt even if its not that old, also check the belt tensioner. If you do get a new belt try out a goodyear gatorback because they can hide noise cause by a misaligned pulley.

Sounds like it's coming from under the hood - hard to tell from what side and yes - only when the a/c is on.

This engine does not have a serpentine belt - we replaced all of the belts last year - all except one with gatorbacks as they didn't have that one in stock. Wonder if that was the one they didn't have? I'll check that and the tensioner. It's frustrating that it doesn't do it at an idle.
