a/c vent problem

a/c works great, but when i accelerate or climb a grade the vents close, and then open back up after i get off it. the a/c is running the vents just close. please help a/c shop wants 250.00 to diagnose.....

The vent doors are operated by engine manifold vacuum. When you open the throttle wide, vacuum available from the engine decreases. There is a check valve and a reservoir tank under the hood to hold vacuum for the vent controls during this time. If the check valve is bad or there is a leak in the vacuum system beyond the check valve (the control panel or the vent dampers, etc), it will do what yours does.
