Blows harder when you accelerate

2000_civic on Sun June 22, 2008 12:41 AM User is offline

Year: 2000
Make: Honda
Model: Civic
Engine Size: 1.6
Refrigerant Type: 134

What would cause the blower to put out more air when you accelerate? Not colder air, just more of it. If I'm idling at a stop lite with the blower set to high, it blows air. When I accelerate the blower puts out more air. If I take my foot off the gas with the clutch disengaged the air output drops back down to what it was at idle. I'm about to redo my system and would like to know if this is a problem I should take care of while I'm in there.

It could be more of the sound getting louder? Like a vacuum door moving. You may want to check for a vacuum line loose or cracked?

Sounds like the Alternator can't keep up @ idle.

Thanks for the replies! I'm going to check the vent system while I have everything pulled apart. I'm going to check the alternator too, I think it might have an oversized pulley on it. Got rained out this weekend. Hopefully I can get it done this coming weekend.

Does sound like a voltage drop. A little of that is normal especially if you have other electric accessories on. Don't run oversized pulleys, the stock configuration is barely adequate. You're unlikely to gain any noticeable hp anyway because the alternator will just pull more torque when it is underspun.

I'm not a big fan of the oversized pulleys myself. Especially on a daily driver. I think they do more harm than good.
