Scout with AMA kit

scout4bta on Tue June 17, 2008 3:10 PM User is offline

Year: 1980
Make: IH
Model: ScoutII
Engine Size: 3.9L
Refrigerant Type: R134A
Ambient Temp: ok
Pressure Low: ok
Pressure High: ok
Country of Origin: United States

to all at AMA

I've been using the AMA kit in my Scout for over a year and half and can say it works real good! Had a reading 40F at the vents on a trip down to Tucson last year when the outside temps were over 110F. Now if I ever get around to replaceing the door seals it might even get cooler inside.

Steve,

Can you supply some more info about your system? Compressor, etc.?

I've got a '72 1210 and am interested in what you did to get a/c in your binder.

Thanks.

Nothing special, used the largest, condenser I could fit up front. Used the AMA kit(evaporator) for the Scout, The compressor is a Sanded, bought the tools, fittings, made my own lines, followed the instructions and it's cold!

I have a 73, 1210 pickup. It had a smaller under dash unit mounted under the hood when I got it. Mine is a 4sp and someone had already heated the shifter up and bent it but I still could not use 1st or 3rd gear because the AC unit was in the way.

You may have the same problem if yours is a stick shift.

My 1210 has a 727 in it, so the shifter woulndn't be an issue unless the transfer case shifter becomes a problem as I've considered converting it over to 4wd.
