I put the vacuum pump on the parents' Odyssey today. After about 2.5 hours, there is a puddle of oil under the vacuum pump. The oil level did not go down in the pump. I figured it was just the vacuum pump oil expanding as it got hot, but then I wondered if I could be sucking the oil out of the system?
We changed the compressor on a fully-functioning system. ...added a little more oil than I drained out of old compressor and buttoned it all back up. I had to leave for a couple of hours while the vacuum was running, so I closed the hood down lightly and hooked the gauges on the license plate bracket. Vacuum pump is on the driveway. The ports on the car are both in horizontal lines, and facing up.

Normally you can't pull enough oil form a system to really notice. What size is the "puddle"?

Did the electricity go off while you were gone?
It's hard to say how big the puddle is, but I'd guess 2-4 ounces. I have a 7 cfm vacuum pump. The power did not go off while I was gone.

The problem I was thinking about was if the power goes off when the pump is running and the vacuum pump oil might get sucked into the ac system. Sound like you have something else going on.
It seems that the drain at the bottom of the vacuum pump was leaking. The exhaust seems to be in the handle, so if it was sucking oil from the system, then it would've been dripping from the handle. I hope.
Anyway, the system is charged and blowing 42 degree air with the fan on high, so we're happy for now.
Kitty litter is soaking up the oil.
