1993 Dodge Ram no compressor operation

TylerW on Sat June 07, 2008 10:25 PM User is offline

Year: 1993
Make: Dodge
Model: Ram
Engine Size: 318
Refrigerant Type: R12

Hey everyone:

Here is the second problem vehicle I have:

This is a 1993 Dodge Ram w/318 Magnum.

This is the old-style Ram with unknown-type compressor and an expansion-valve system. It appears to be fully charged with R12.

The problem is that the compressor will not engage using the HVAC controls. I temporarily bypassed the low-pressure switch and that had no effect.

I discovered that a previous owner had wired a manual switch into the compressor clutch circuit to use the air, and it indeed works great doing that, but I don't like the idea of that.

These trucks aren't common anymore and I've had a real problem finding a usable electrical schematic to be able to at least test the electrical side of the system.

I know this truck is supposed to have a WOT cut-out relay..somewhere..but i have no idea where.

So...hopefully those that are more familiar with these types of Mopar systems can give me some troubleshooting pointers.

Thanks a lot...

I decided I am tired of chasing a problem I can't get any help on regardless of what forum I post up in, so today I installed a manual switch for the compressor and now I have ice cold air.
