Hi folks, need some advice here,
I am completing a two year rebuild of my 78 corvette and it's time to get the A/C working again. When I disassembled the car, the original system had been converted to R-22 by a previous owner and all components worked fine. As part of the restoration, I want to convert to R134a refrigerant.
Thus far, I have replaced the evaporator, accumulator drier, main hose from the evaporator to the compressor and condenser. I have purchased a new, old stock Delco (Harrison) compressor that is literally still in the 30 year old box. Got a kit of O-rings and nylog from ackits.com as well as 8 ounces of Auto 100 oil for the system.
I know I have to drain my compressor of the 8 oz of oil that come pre-loaded in it from the factory and replace it with the 8 ounces of Auto 100 (in different parts of the system).
But of course, I have a few questions....
I've seen some discussion on this forum suggesting that you use the Ford blue orifice tube in a converted 134a setup because the size hole in the valve is better for dispersing the 134A than the one designed for the R12 (stock white one). Is this true?
Also, the Low pressure cut-out switch is listed as part number 29-30062 on the ACKITS site. When I went to order my stuff, that part was out of stock and I received a note in my shipment that this valve would not work with R134a and I needed part number 29-30401.
I ordered the switch, but the threads on it are larger than the threads on my old one. Does anyone know what switch I actually need?
OK, last one. We plan on charging the system using gauges and not just blindly putting in an amount of R134a. Can anyone give me some guidance on what pressures I should be shooting for on the low and high side when the system is fully charged?
