2003 Tahoe "Noise Complaint" defined

GM Tech on Thu June 05, 2008 1:14 PM User is offline

Year: 2003
Make: Chev
Model: Tahoe

Owner was told to replace the compressor- the former mechanic had changed the belt- no help- Noise was at 1700 rpm - just about cruising speed- and was traveling from stop to stop- and even hitting the tranny cooler lines at times...I changed the tensioner- got rid of most of it......

The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......

Yeah- I could have told them to put it in their ears-- or turn up the radio

Always wondered why I've heard of belt breakage and flippage on that simple belt path design............was much worse at higher ambients- but it was 60 deg f when I videod this....ain't that always the way it goes!!!

Those seem to last about 86,000 miles then they need a compressor. I have been through that route with those trucks many times.

Serously 86K like clockwork.
