How much dye in 94' Suburban?

pmontgomery on Sun June 01, 2008 10:49 AM User is offline

I have a pretty good leak in my 94' Suburban. How much dye should I shoot
in to find the leak? I replaced the rear expansion valve in it last year and
I think that is where it is at but want to be sure.

A quarter ounce is the norm- that was the size of the original bottles

The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......

I have a huge bottle of it. I think it is like 10 oz. Will 1/4oz. be enough for a suburban though?

Absolutely- more won't hurt-- I mix about 4 quarter ounce bottles of dye to a gallon of oil-- then whenever I add any oil to a system- it gets the dye.......

Whoops. I didn't see the 94. Ya check the low side hose up in the rear unit for oil where its crimped nearest the evaporator.
