jgcox6 on Tue May 27, 2008 8:23 PM User is offline

Year: 1999
Make: chevy
Model: silverado
Engine Size: 5.3l
Refrigerant Type: 134

hey guys..trying to remove the clutch to take a shim out on my 1999 silverado. It has some funky shaft with like threads on the inside and outside. I need to know what tools i need to remove it and where would i get them.

Should be an HT6?? like this one? or do you have the Denso, I forget which years used what.. Anyway, it sounds like you're describing an HT6, and it won't have shims. Press fit clutch. If so you need the clutch hub "installer" to close the gap. You can e-mail the guys at Ackits.com and they can get the mastercool tool you need. Might want the clutch removal tool as well (in case you press it to far in..) If you have the Denso, I "believe" you just remove the front bolt and it slides off exposing the shims..Hope this helps..

Chick, how much should we close the gap? Is the business card gap still good enough? Talk me through it please. Thanks again for you help.

Sure, this link on changing front seals shows how to set the gap. This is if your compressor clutch looks like the one in the pics.. Hope this helps..
PS: also give the part numbers for the tools you'll need I believe..
