Total oil capacity for camry

cooldude on Tue May 27, 2008 2:45 PM User is offline

Year: 1993
Make: Toyota
Model: Camry
Engine Size: 3.0 V6
Refrigerant Type: R-12

I am replacing the compressor, receiver/dryer, expansion valve and condenser. I have flushed the hoses and evaporator. I will flush the new condenser when I get it (on order). I can't be sure of the quantity of oil in the replacement compressor until I drain it, nor do I know what type it is. I plan to use 525 mineral and recharge with R-12. If I drain the oil from the compressor and everything else is oil-free, how much mineral oil do I need to add for the entire system?

Thanks!

Barry

Thanks Tim! I have a Haynes Automotive Heating and Air Conditioning Techbook. It specifies "System refrigerant oil capacity" of 4.30 oz. It was wrong about another of my vehicles, so I don't trust it. I have a genuine Toyo repair manual which only describes how much oil for individual component replacement.

receiver 0.5
condenser 1.2
evaporator 1.6
compressor 3.5

This adds up to 6.8, but I expect that when replacing individual components you need to add back a bit.

My data shows 6 to 7 ounces for that style compressor. 6.5 would work fine.
