Add oil during recharge?

mjlinder on Sat May 24, 2008 4:22 PM User is offlineView users profile

Year: 2001
Make: Ford
Model: F150 Supercrew
Engine Size: 5.4
Refrigerant Type: R134a

I just lost my charge due to a leak in one of my AC lines. It doesn't look like I lost much oil though - there was a very small amount around the hole and none detectable on any of the other engine components.

I changed the line and now I'm going to recharge. Should I add a charge of oil? If I add a charge of oil, do I then deduct that amount from the 33oz of R134a?

Thanks!

Mark

Open any connection and pour a little oil in the connection. Maybe an ounce in this case. Then follow the normal evacuate and charging procedures. Don't mess with those cheap oil in a can options.
