Golf/Jetta on Wed May 14, 2008 8:58 AM User is offline

Year: 97
Make: Volkswagen
Model: Jetta
Engine Size: 1.9
Refrigerant Type: R134
Ambient Temp: 20 C
Country of Origin: Canada

A/C cuts out above 1100 rpms but restores when idling? nice and cold when idling
two thoughts on this, low on R134 or relay? what do you think and thanks

Pressures? hi and low??

Are cooling fans at condenser running with a/c command?

Does it cool driving down the road?

sounds like high pressure cut-outs due to inadequate airflow across condenser-- pressures would confirm.......

-------------------------
The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......

If you are parked / idling and raise the RPM to 1500 with AC on max, after a minute or so do you hear the radiator fan kick on high speed? You should. If not, the fan could be your problem. Redo it again but this time have a friend spray the front grill with a garden hose. If the AC doesn't kick off this time then it's most likely a condenser/radiator fan. That or you got a really dirty condenser grill. Clean all the bugs off it.
