R134a port connection on 97 Buick

Jesse31 on Thu May 01, 2008 5:01 PM User is offline

Year: 1997
Make: Buick
Model: Park Avenue
Refrigerant Type: 134a

My dads Buick AC is not very cold...bought a recharge kit from Advance Auto...looked up in the factory service manual for the location of the low side service port...found it...the kit I bought will not fit it...the service port is too large for the hose connection...(no way possible to connect, it would split the hose connector if I forced it)...I double checked that I had the correct port...the other port is too small (high) side...ARRRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!...is this some special dealer only port?

Under R-134a standards, the small port is the low side. Make sure what you're looking at is actually part of the A/C system at all. It's good practice to follow the lines around and identify all the parts before starting service.

Return that kit and buy a gauge manifold instead so you can watch both pressures. Blindly putting in refrigerant without seeing what the high side is doing can lead to an overcharge.

Ok...then the service manual is wrong (not surprising)...the connector won't fit the small port though.
