R134 Conversion and other Questions-91 Accord

toddk63 on Sun April 20, 2008 5:40 PM User is offline

Year: 1991
Make: Honda
Model: Accord

About 3 years ago I put a new compressor in my 1991 Accord. While doing this, I flushed or replaced everything, put the "green" R134a friendly O-rings on, and put BVA 100 POE oil back in. Although I put R12 in it that time, I am basically drop in ready to convert to R134a.

My evaporator just developed a big leak and I have only 1 lb or less of R12 left, so I was thinking of giving the R134a a go after replacing the evaporator this time.

Questions:

-Should I remove the valve cores from the schrader valves before putting the conversion fittings on?

-How much oil should I add to the new evaporator for replacing the evaporator and drier.

-What is the shelf life of the POE oil? I have some that has been opened then capped and has been in my garage for a couple of years.

-Any other advice?

Thanks,

Todd K.
