Question About Vacuum Pump

Quick question.
I have a Robinair 4CFM vacuum pump. It is a model #15400. The question I have is when I am vacuuming do I open the "gas ballast" vent or leave it closed?

Thanx,
Bud

OPen it when you start the vacuum process. Then after you achieve the max vacuum, close the valve. You should see the vacuum increase. The purpose of the valve is to prolong the oil in the pump. It will absorb less moisture into the oil when the valve is open.

Thanx!

BTW, after I connected all the hoses on my '72 Chevy retrofit (Sanden to POA/TXV OEM system) and I pulled a deep vacuum for over 1 hour and left the gauges on over nite I checked them this morning and still hasn't budged off of 29". That is a good sign!

Today is charge day!

Thanx again,
Bud
