pag oil vs ester oil

Freeze 77 on Wed March 12, 2008 12:44 PM User is offline

Year: 89
Make: chevy
Model: c 2500
Engine Size: 350
Refrigerant Type: r12

I will retrofit my R12 system to 134. I will completely flush the system, install new orfice tube, and accumulator. Which is the best oil to use for a 89 Full-size Chevy C2500 pickup with a R4 compressor? PAG or Ester?

Thanks!!!!

Starting with a clean system you can use either PAG 150 or a "quality" ester oil like BVA auto 100. I use that in all my retrofits, including the R4 with no problems to date, if you go with PAG go with the double end capped..Hope this helps.,.

I have had no luck retrofitting that model truck to R134a. I have upgraded condensors and played with Orifice tube sizes etc and still could not get em to cool well on a hot summer day.
