I remember someone (I think it was Ice-man) was mentioning something to me the in a past post that on these SD7V16 the refrigerant control valve is often times faulty and one of the problems with these "china-knock offs" is they often times just use a one size fits all valve. In this article (link below) he talks about removing the valve and turning the compressor into a fixed displacement instead of the variable. I am just wondering if anyone has ever done this before. I know I have read a lot of posts from Chick blaming this valve for poor performance on VW's. Just looking for some opinions.
Oh that's the site that won't allow anyone to even mention us.
If you think the valve is bad replace it with a known good one. Even a wrecking yard replacement could do the trick. But if you want to tear down a compressor and rewire the vehicle. I guess we all need something to do on the weekend.
Just my 2 cents.
Relationships and such aside, do you think it is a bad idea, even better do you guys have the correct valve? Am i crazy for putting such and such together, or do I have a legitimate case in my thinking?
Thanks as always for your help
(I am trying to get this car in good working order before i leave for Iraq in about 2 weeks so my wife has a good backup car for her and my 18 month old daughter)
Dude just bring it by our shop and let us take a look at it. I'll look at it for free!
Thanks for serving our country! If you have any issues with while you are gone. We will look at it for your wife also. Parts are on you and I won't use anything other than what we use. I will provide a discount if anything is needed.
Tim if I were local I would have brought it to you a month ago, but thanks anyway, I will come up with something to get this car running back in its prime. If i am ever out in AZ, I will stop by just to say hi (and let you fix my a/c)
Darn I thought you were local. Must have been that other guy with similar issues. I'll try and track down which control valve is used in the compressor in the morning.
Wow Tim, I knew I've been reading this forum for a reason. The offer you just made that guy really impresses me! You guys are all right! So far, I personally haven't bought anything from you (although I still intend to) but I did refer a friend of mine a few weeks ago who bought a compressor and drier for his Range Rover. Anymore, it's tough to find anyone who runs a business the way you guys do. Kudos to all of you!
As stated I thought this individual was local and personally think we/I can not do enough to support our troops!
I can't give away all of our services and parts or we would have to shut everything down. But I have been following this members quest for cool air and was hoping to help a little. This forum is a similar example of what I feel is giving back a little to our customer. If you want to call it that. Sure this forum creates some sales for us. But the hours others and myself have put in answering posts will never be off set buy the sales generated. As stated there are other sites like this but do you see the owners posting answers on a daily basis. Nope, well at least I don't. A post every 3 months saying how much one misses answering the questions is a little fictitious in my opinion. What about the Ebayer that uses this site's knowledge yet can't even toss in a buck donation. The donation link, should explain that. Our good friend Tony at BAT Auto is always having a time creating funds to support batauto.com. He does not have the luxury I do of a fathers business to support a site. So after many discussions over the years I thought I'll post a donation link similar to what Tony has done and see if it is just BAT Auto having this issue. Well the "Support the Auto A/C Forum' link has been up and running for over 3 months. To date not a single dollar has been donated. Don't take this as a plug for donations I'm just on a rant/roll this morning.
Any way I thank you for the comments and support. I also thank all of those which try to help answer the questions others post on this forum. I certainly don't have all the answers! Even if I did I could not answer all the questions my self. I have learned a good amount from others here and enjoy the friends I have meet through this site.
Ben, post up your vehicle information again and I'll try and track down the correct control valve.
Where is Ice-N Tropics when you need him. Heck he probably has a few dozen laying around the office.
OK I changed the title a little and actually got it working. Within the store front it has to have a weight. As stated we will remove any shipping charge associated with the donation.
You guys are crazy!!!! You and Karl tied!
Thanks so much but my post was just a morning rant!
We love it when you rant, it always gets responses doesn't it?
You still need to post your article in the manufactures section!!!!!!!
PS: Notice the squawking penguin in the link? Now who would use such an icon as that?
Hmmmm, HECAT loves penguins, the smokers warmin' up, got to make some special "Adlana Jawja" special sweet BBQ sauce...Oops, got side tracked thinking about lunch.
Articles, videos, all kinds of good stuff... just have not been able to master how to download.
Before you send me all the instructions again, I am a mechanical engineer and a certified computer idiot. I just found out what the back, up, and down arrows are for!
Maybe I could get a little help to post up some stuff?
KArl when you have time call me and I'll walk you through it. I could give you a fish but you would only eat for a day. I teach you to fish instead.
Ben, thanks and lets post that vehicle data so I can check for a control valve!
Tim you are right, I am always impressed with the time and effort you and others provide on this site. The info on my car is:
1998 VW Golf, 2.0L eng...ABA code, factory air, w/ power steering and it is NOT CA emissions. I believe the compressor is a Sanden SD7V16 (of course the one on there right now is a new Ready-aire compressor). And just another way I can say thanks for your help and support I have sent a donation to the site...
Now Tim since you have brought up the issue (kind of) about supporting the troops. I have got to say "Thank you!!!" I say that because you and many others on this site actually do. Ever since moving to Texas I have noticed every business around here always has signs up that say "we support the troops" and yellow ribbons plastered on walls, but in all actuality many of them are only using it as a marketing tool! Walk into the business and ask, "How do you support the troops?" Sometimes it is with a small discount, working with service members unique situations, or even just shipping to FPO/APOâÂÂs, but most of the times it is nothing. Now before anyone gets upset and thinks I am fishing for special privileges or free stuff, IâÂÂm not. Let me finish...In that same business (say a car dealership) they have it written on every window "We support the troops." Now that brand new E-1 fresh out of high school goes into the place and wants to buy a car, "Sure" the dealer says we will finance you, just sign here, here, and here and you can drive it away today...oh whatâÂÂs that fine print say...30% interest? How is that supporting a soldier? You are not! Plain and simple you are preying upon them and taking advantage of unsuspecting young soldiers who have fallen victim to your yellow ribbons hanging in the windows and welcome back signs posted on the road.
Like I said, it is not all businesses that do this, but more and more I am beginning to see this.
Don't exploit the people who are risking their life, just so you can get more business. Let's be honest, in today's world especially when we start talking politics and wars it seems everybody has a different opinion, but one thing that seems to always be a "don't go there" saying is, âÂÂWe support the troops.â Everyone has the right to their opinion and despite whether we agree with them or not, it is their right. I know everyone doesn't support the war, or the troops, and like I said that's their right, I would respect someone more if they flat out said, "screw you, I don't support you because you are in the military and your job is to go to war." Might not agree with them, but it is still a free country.
Again, Tim what I am getting at is you guys really do support us and that means a lot to me. It is more than just lip service, and you are not using it for your own personal gains. People are dying every day over there and for someone to capitalize off a family's lose makes me sick! As I mentioned earlier, you don't have to provide free things or a service, but just remember the sacrifices people and their families make to keep this country safe. Maybe spend that extra couple minutes filling out a customs form so it can go overseas, say a brief prayer at night, or simply pause next time you hear about a road side bomb killing an American Soldier, and know that a familyâÂÂs life has just changed forever. It is our show of military force that keeps people in this country safe, not our politics. It is like a âÂÂBeware of Dogâ sign, it really makes you think twice before hopping that fence, and trust me what we have in our arsenal will deter the majority of any threat towards our country. Let these countries talk, but I donâÂÂt see many of them doing anything!
Tim, you got to go on a morning rant, so I guess I will go on an afternoon one . Sorry I had a bad morning and also needed to vent!
Thanks again guys for everything, and I really do mean that.
I froze a SD7V16 in max stroke just for kicks. It sounded like a thrashing machine at high engine rpm. Tear down revealed that there was abnormal wear on the internal back side washer against the cam. This was due to "backlash" (negative driving torque) or the cam forces reversing to draw down the piston on the suction stroke. Also it would be necessary TO ADD A EVAPORATOR TEMP FREEZE PROTECTION SWITCH INTO THE CLUTCH CIRCUIT.
There are 5 models of control valves. I'll look around the shop for a good SDV control valve if I knew where to send this freebee.

Rant away and remember you always will have friends here to help. I personally would love hearing from you while your in Iraq. If you have access and time. keep us posted on what's really happening! Images or text. Make sure your fellow soldiers know there are many of us that support what you are doing. I been kicking around going to a "Packages from Home" packaging night.
Bottom line and I don't give a dam what anyone else thinks. You guys and gals are awesome in my book.
ICE let me know as I have Ben's address, he just donated. Can forward it to you. You can even bill me a few bucks for freight and the valve if you like.
I would hope that most of these "we support our troops" signs are put up just because they DO and not because they are offering military discounts. If discounts are being offered or expected the sign should read "military discounts" don't you think?
If these patriotic and proud symbols are being used just as a marketing strategies to attract young military members, then may they drink the pi** of a thousand camels!
I was a military brat for 22 years, had a short time in service, and believe that the act of voluntary enlisting is deserving of nothing less than my sincere honor and respect. Thank you my friend.
Early in this Iraqi fight for independence, we shipped over 2 tons of "comfort" supplies via US mail in individual 30 lb boxes at my companies expense to support two friends of mine and their company brothers (3rd Bat. 52nd Inf. 101st Airborne) in Mosul. Sadly this slowly came to an end as I lost contact with the company brothers after both of my friends were killed. I proudly display a Cert of Appreciation from the Army next to a picture of the Twin Towers in my office to serve as a reminder every day of the sacrifices these friends and our military makes for US.
Gods Speed my friend, and keep us informed and let us know what you need, we'll figure out how to get it to you.
Well our good friend Ice-N-Tropics just asked for Ben's address. So I guess he has used valve or compressor to ship him. Ice even got in a Seltec jab in our conversation, so it's all good!
New SD7V16 valve plate assembly with VW spec control valve is on UPS to you today. It's only less than 200 miles transportation to reach you.
The family and I get down I-35 to Salado near you several times a year. Fishing is pretty good around your neck of the woods.
