High Pressure Switch?

hogtrader on Tue October 09, 2007 8:54 AM User is offline

Year: 1989
Make: Volvo
Model: 740GLE
Engine Size: 2.3
Refrigerant Type: r 12
Country of Origin: United States

Can anyone help ID a part in this system? It does not show up on parts schematics. It appears to be a sensor/switch that screws into a tube that taps the high side line leading from the evaporator core. It has a black plastic case with two white wires.

White wires? Every Volvo of that vintage I ever looked at had green wires on the pressure switch. In fact the control system on that vehicle is a series of switches all wired in green from the control head to the compressor.

Is this an OEM system? There are two wiring diagrams for that model year, depending on which type of fuel injection you have.

Post a picture of the switch if you can.

I pulled it off today. This is a part that has a dual (both white)wire harness about 6 inchs in lght. It srews into the discharge line just off of the evaporator. The fitting on the line has a schrader valve in it which is depressed when the part is screwed on. (Prevent gas escaping upon removal,) There is a tag with a part number (3522247) so I can give the dealer a call. "Ranco" appears to be the mfg. Other #s are 071-559067-F01 05

It looks like some sort of high side sensor/switch. The low side screws into the accumulator.

Can you post a couple pics of it? one that shows where in the line it is, and a close up of the switch?
Also, does this car have ATC or manual??

I found the part. Volvo calls it a Pressostat. Its a high press cutout. None of the basic schematics show it, and the dealer had to fax me a breakdown. They could not ID it over the phone.

That switch likely runs the booster fan in front of the radiator. There is a sensor in the radiator return tank that activates the fan if the coolant gets too hot, another to run the fan if the AC pressure builds too high.
