02 z28 ac freezing up on the interstate.

Year: 02
Make: chevy
Model: camarp
Engine Size: 5.7
Refrigerant Type: 134
Ambient Temp: mid 70s
Pressure Low: na
Pressure High: na

this seems like the best place to ask, I asked my buddy that works at a shop that does a little bit of everything includeding a/c work and he don't know.

this one is my daily driver so I want it done right.... I took a long road trip in it a few months back and the condensor would freze up. the only setting it wouldn't happen on was bylevel, outside air and blower on max(which sucked for hours on end lol). anything less it would freeze in no time at all. and this was on hot days. at night I couldn't find anyway to keep it from freezing up.

the car has about 50k miles on it, the ac has never been touched. I haven't put gauges on it. since it doesn't do it around town at all, day or night. I'm planing on a trip in a few months and don't want to deal with turning the a/c on and all all the time again.

the temps around town are normal/outside air is just under 40*. max its low 30s. and these are hot florida days in rush hour traffic.

any ideas what I should check or replace or even a place to start? like I said, this ac is used whenever I'm in the car, pretty much day and night(no power windows).

So long as it's over 70 degrees will give us data we can use, but post the outside temp along with the pressures..Hope this helps..
High/low pressures, ambient temp, windows down, fan on high
Then get the pressures at idle and 1500rpm with the windows up, fan on low, AC on max..

control valve is set too low.............can be replaced,.........

-------------------------
The number one A/C diagnostic tool there is- is to know how much refrigerant is in the system- this can only be done by recovering and weighing the refrigerant!!
Just a thought.... 65% of A/C failures in my 3200 car diagnostic database (GM vehicles) are due to loss of refrigerant due to a leak......

GM Tech is the "Master" with these, so I would have the system recovered (must be empty to change the control valve, and the AcDelco number for that one is 15-5452 and here's a pic of it
Goes in the rear head about the 6 o'clock position on your V7 compressor Hope this helps..

Just to add, it's the same control valve from 94 and up V5's and V7's.... Should be easy to find..
