R12 Pressures

andy0221 on Sat September 01, 2007 11:19 PM User is offline

Year: 1991
Make: BMW
Model: 325IC
Engine Size: 2.5-6 cy
Refrigerant Type: R12
Ambient Temp: 110
Pressure Low: 30
Pressure High: 260
Country of Origin: United States

I have a question- When people post pressure readings, is that at true idle like 700rpms or is it at a higher rpm say like 2000 rpm? At true idle my pressures are 43 low and 255 high (granted its 110 degress ambient) but if I rev it to 2000 rpm the low goes down to 30 which is good. My problem is that driving around I get 39 degree vent temps but at idle the temp starts climping up to about 50 degrees. Not sure if this is normal- my front fan works great. Maybe 50 degrees at idle is the best I can get in Phoenix at 110+ degrees.

First, 50 degrees at a 110 ambient is great. But you could check the fan clutch. You have both on that car or just the one?? A fan clutch vcan "appear to be working" great, but still be weak. If it's older than three years, or has a lot of miles on it, it may pay to change it..But 50 degree vent temps at 110, it is working...

Thanks for the info- yes the car has both fans and both are less than 6 months old.
