A/C dryer desiccant bag

bolinglr on Fri October 07, 2005 8:51 AM User is offlineView users profile

Year: 1986
Make: Jaguar
Model: XJS
Engine Size: 5.3 V12
Refrigerant Type: R12
Country of Origin: United States

What can cause the desiccant bag to rupture? Would installing the dryer backwards cause this problem?

Thanks,
Lynn

Are you asking about the original drier, or one you replaced? Many things can do it, most common is when using an old drier with a retrofit. Seems they just don't hold up.

It was a new dryer, new compressor, and new expansion valve.

Thanks,

Possibly item sitting on the shelf to long and may have been uncapped at one point. I never seen a bag rupture do to being installed incorrectly. Lots of of issues but not a rupture. If you were sold an old R12 drier and used R134a that could cause a rupture but that would be rare.

Sitting uncapped to long...R12 drier? Defective drier? Just some reasons...Hope this helps.

Is there any way to tell if it has sat uncapped too long? Like, does the desiccant bag get heavier (like a diaper)?
