Hey i have a 98 s10 long bed with a 4.3l vortech engine we recently replaced the compressor and clutch for the ac and charged the truck with freon .. i know it takes 30 ounces and we put about 36 in since you cant put in half a can anyway the ac worked fine blew hard and was ice cold for awhile but all of a sudden the blowing power is really way down sometimes it wont seem to work at all and the 4 setting on the ac fan control shuts off the ac anyone have any ideas? thanks

Did you vacuum the system before charging? If not, that needs to be done as you'll have air in the system, and that along with the overcharge will shut the compressor down due to high side pressure. The fan is run on a resistor,(lower speeds) and the high fan is run on a relay..If the air coming out seems to blow less, then the evaporator may be freezing up, or is full of dirt, leaking or other problems..But answer the vacuum question first, check that the compressor is on when cooling stops. and let us know everything you did to the system...Hope this helps.

Yes I think on those there is a relay to engage the high fan speed, which often fails. It is near the fan motor under the hood and I think it was the one with the metal case.

The fan should work regardless of the compresor performance. If there is air in the system (caused by opening the lines, and not removing the air with a vacuum pump before recharging) you will not get full performance and may suffer eventual failure.

There is a TSB on these trucks about a connector thats near the blower motor and the connector melts. It's a flat 4 wire connector and the high speed wire is the one that melts.
